The project focuses on innovative practices supporting and fostering economic and social inclusion
of refugees and migrants in different European countries.
The research developed and the case studies analyzed provided insight on the phenomenology of migrants’ entrepreneurship and examples of activities that can support migrants’ economic integration. This allowed to draw policy implications and design concrete actions (incubation methodology) in order to accelerate the economic integration of migrants, with particular regard to entrepreneurship.
The research report focuses on projects and policies supporting social and economic integration of migrants and refugees in several European countries. The research project was designed and implemented in order to deepen the knowledge on this topic, to recognize trends and approaches emerging in the EU, and to promote a strategic dialogue and a process of cross-fertilization among different stakeholders.
The aim is to understand how policies and initiatives promoted around Europe could fit into the Italian context and if it is possible to identify common challenges and patterns that could bring to a European strategy.

In particular, the Working group Migration and Integration works to gain recognition the role of local authorities in fostering migrant integration through a governance system. It also helped to set up a European Commission database of good practices on integration policies.

The cooperative is called Tobilì – Cucina in movimento. They offer a multi-ethnic catering service; they organise dinners, lunch, events and cooking classes for those who want to learn ethnic cuisine from countries like Armenia, Egypt, Mali, and Kurdistan. Through cooking, they offer a cultural and gastronomic dialogue.
The Silent University
The Silent University is an solidarity based knowledge exchange platform by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. This University involve participants with previous professional life and academic training who are unable to use their skills and training due to their status.
The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE)
In its mission and work programme ECRE puts its focus on the respect of human rights of asylum seekers and refugees. In addition, coordinates relevant databases, such as the Asylum Information Database (AIDA) and the European Database on Asylum Law (EDAL).
The Centre for Entrepreneurs
The Centre for Entrepreneurs promotes the role of entrepreneurs in creating economic growth and social well-being. This organisation provides support, do research, encourage and advocate for entrepreneurship through different projects locally and at an European level.
Taqanu Bank promotes financial inclusion of refugees and other disenfranchised communities through an on-line platform that uses fintech solutions. This service gives refugees their own digital ID and ownership of data and offers them banking services with the use of blockchain technology and encryption.
Start-up services, migrant enterprises (former Mingo Services for SMEs)
Sart-up services, migrant enterprises provides individual business support in a large variety of languages. Many of the advisers and service providers have a migrant background. The service give special attention to women entrepreneurs.
Specialised Support for the Entrepreneurs
The project aims at offering highly comprehensive and tailored business support. They provide general information, economic and legal assistance, thematic workshops and events, and also facilitate contacts, and a place to work from or schedule meetings.
Refugees into Teaching (RiT)
RiT supports those with a background in teaching who are looking to re-qualify and access employment within primary and secondary education across England giving tailored support including advice and guidance, information on the education system and teaching training and more.
Refugee Scart helps refugees given them an opportunity to work and social inclusion but, on the other hand, it is an idea of environmental sustainability and it is useful in order to clean Rome from the plastic. So, refugees can give a contribute to the city and they can start a new life.
Project Promoting the Immigrant Entrepreneurship – PEI
This project has the purpose to encourage the entrepreneurship by communities of immigrants. So it helps beneficiaries to develop an enterprising attitude to life; develop personal, social and business management skills; create a new business and connect with the entrepreneurship support programs already existing.
Project of Rural and Agricultural Integration in Supportive Environment (RAISE)
Project of Rural and Agricultural Integration in Supportive Environment aims to integrate internally displaced people (IDP) and refugee into rural communities throughout Serbia. The project supports them to start up small businesses in rural environments.

Their aim is to show how migration is a source of innovation for host societies, producing new narratives and data on migration, identity and the economy and formalizing insights on the parameters of creating enabling environments for migrant. led innovation on a larger scale
Passwork (Cooperativa Sociale)
Passwork manages three centres that receive migrants, they want to protect immigrants and refugees when they arrive to Siracusa and help them integrate and become independent. Moreover they´re able to offer shelter, care, education, training, and job placement.
Options Foodlab is a collective project of catering that is creating a space for cooks from different backgrounds. Their aim is to create a space where residents and newcomers can come together and discover about their culture using the vehicle of food, cooking, and collaboration.
Norwegian Center For Multicultural Value Creation – NFSV
Norwegian Center For Multicultural Value Creation provide personalised business training and individual business support to mainly highly-educated migrants. Advisers stay in touch with beneficiaries and support them long after the support has ended.
New Cold System
New Cold System produces systems and manufactures components for standard and special applications in refrigeration and air conditioning. Thanks to their experience and continuous technical research, they are able to provide more products meeting the standard quality of the industry.
The association LESS provides a system of social services, hospitality and social inclusion action for economic migrants, asylum seekers and international protection holders. The association aims to act against exclusion and social marginalization, for the promotion of active citizenship. and the full recognition of migrant identities.
Intercultural Incubator for Migrant Organisations (MIOI)
Intercultural Incubator for Migrant Organisation supports the creation of organisations that will work for the integration of other migrant communities, offering the business training courses, with a flexible schedule and covering all the necessities to set up a company.
Integration through training (IQ) Network
Integration through training (IQ) Network works to improve employment opportunities for people with a migration background, giving migrants the possibility to access a job according to their qualifications and provides support for economic and social integration.
Grandhotel Cosmopolis is a place that combines refugee accommodations, artist’s studios and open work spaces as well as a hotel offering culinary and cultural attractions. The basis for getting a room was and still is anyone joining the project contributes their abilities and skills.
Facilitate and accompany the economic initiatives
Facilitate and accompany the economic initiatives applies a research-action approach that favours the needs assessment through survey and adjustment of the service and provide information, tutoring and mentoring to North Africans with a low level of qualification.
European Migration Network (EMN)
The EMN plays a key role in providing up to date, objective, and comparable information on migration and asylum topics to policy makers (at EU and Member State level) and public and also establish relationships with other entities active in the migrant and asylum area.
The Eliemental project aimed to achieve 4 objectives targeted at migrant and other vulnerable groups: identification of socio and cultural barriers to employment, provision of entrepreneurship training, improvement of employability by developing entrepreneurial skills and increase the social and cultural capital.

Ciac is a robust organization working with several public administration, non-profit organization and private ones, providing a wide range of services with a distinctive approach, mostly experimenting different ways to implement “traditional” services.
